Pool Tournament raises hundreds on cue
A pool tournament was held by Bell on the Green pool club last Monday, to raise funds for our hospices. The ‘Cookie Cup’ was held in memory of club member, Darren Cook, who died of cancer and was cared for at Woking Hospice in the last few weeks of his life. It was organised by lifelong friend of Darren, Chris Saunders and club Captain Pete Atkins.
Local company, Air to Road sponsored the venue and raffle prizes were donated by Fullers Brewery. Acquisition of a third table was sponsored by Kossways. For those women, and indeed men, who did not wish to play, nail artists Estella and Sally gave manicures whilst the competition was played out.
In total £1259.91 was raised for the hospices. Captain of Bell on the Green team, Pete Atkins explains: “We had known Darren about 5 years but in that time he became like a brother to us all in the team and the league. We started the ‘Cookie Cup’ in his honour and this year 27 players from the area came to join in. A great day was had by all and we would like to thank everyone involved who made the tournament such a success. We would also like to acknowledge the great work of Woking Hospice who work tirelessly to make everyone who they care for welcome and comfortable.”
