New interim CEO appointed

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Jayne Cooper as Interim Chief Executive.

Jayne joined the Hospices in September 2015 as Director of Nursing from the Buckinghamshire NHS Trust where she was Associate Chief Nurse for Integrated Medicine and a member of the Executive team responsible for the operational, financial and quality delivery of services and strategic objectives, overseeing over 800 nursing staff.

A Registered Nurse (Child), in 2011 Jayne was a recipient of the prestigious Florence Nightingale Foundation Children and Young People Leadership Scholarship which allowed her to develop her strategic thinking, management and leadership skills and to optimise her professional impact.

Speaking of her new role Jayne Cooper said: “I’m really looking forward to leading the Hospices during this intense period of activity and as we implement our plans for the future which I know will help to transform the provision of palliative care in North West Surrey.”

Marc Riggs, Chair of the Hospice Trustee Board said: “The Board and all her colleagues have been immensely impressed by Jayne’s wealth of practical nursing expertise. She has a deep understanding of the acute, community and palliative care environments and it was under her stewardship as Registered Manager with the Care Quality Commission that Woking Hospice received a ‘Good’ overall rating. Equally impressive has been her managerial expertise and competence – all factors which together have fully qualified her for the role of Interim Chief Executive. I look forward to working with her in this capacity and she has the Board’s full confidence.”

“This is an exciting and challenging time for the Hospices as we look to complete our new Hospice in Goldsworth Park, Woking and progressively transition our services to it in readiness to welcome our first patients in spring of 2017. Jayne’s leadership skills and those of the whole management team will be invaluable during this period.”

The Board announced in May this year current Chief Executive, Nigel Harding was leaving the charity to join St Joseph’s Hospice, based in Hackney, East London. Mr Harding will leave in November 2016 to take up his new role and to maintain continuity he will be available in an advisory role to the Hospices for a short period after his departure should this be required.

The Trustees are currently reviewing options for the permanent Chief Executive role.
