On Thursday 19 November we switched on the lights of our Hospice Memory Tree and marked the start of Light up a Life for 2020.
Like everything this year it was a little different attended only by Marian Imrie our CEO, Mary Morgan our Spiritual Care Lead, our special guest John Sinclair and his bagpipes.
John’s wife Jane was cared for by the hospice and we were delighted that he was able to join us to switch on the lights of the Memory Tree.
“We spent Christmas in the hospice last year and it was a very special time for our family. Jane’s room ended up looking more like Santa’s Grotto than a clinical room and during this time we were also aware of the Light up a Life Services and we saw the Memory Tree in the café filled with dedications, they reminded us all that we were not alone” commented John “So it is a real privilege to come today to switch on the lights for 2020, my family can’t thank the hospice enough for the care they provided not to just to Jane but to the whole family”.
You can watch the lights being switched on and enjoy John playing Amazing Grace on the bagpipes here.
Our Light up a Life services this year are being recorded so we can still come together albeit in a slightly different way to remember our loved ones. Our first service at St Andrews Church can be watched here.
If you would like to add your own dedication to the Memory Tree you can download your candle here
Although we are still having to restrict the number of visitors to the hospice and the café is closed you can see our beautiful memory tree in the window of the hospice and we also have a new tree lit up outside too.
Both trees were very kindly donated by Woking Funeral Services.
