We are delighted to announce that the actor Peter Egan has become a Patron for Woking & Sam Beare Hospice. Peter is best known for his roles in Downtown Abbey, Unforgotten and After Life 2 and outside of acting he is a campaigner for animal rights.
Earlier this year Peter’s wife of 49 years Myra was cared for by the Hospice team before she sadly passed away in March.
“The Hospice Staff were so wonderfully helpful to both myself and my daughter Rebecca, I don’t know what I would have done without them during the last few weeks of Myra’s life. They are an amazing group and all their carers and employees are caring and compassionate, I am so impressed with them and that is why I have decided to become their Patron” Peter Egan
“We are incredibly grateful that Peter has decided to become a Patron for our charity and, having experienced for himself first-hand just how important hospice care, is I am sure he will be an amazing ambassador for us.” commented Marian Imrie CEO Woking & Sam Beare Hospice.
Peter’s first job for us as Patron will be to officially open the Hospice Woodland Walk a brand new fundraising event that will take place on Sunday 17th October. Starting and finishing at the McLaren Technology Centre walkers can choose between a 5 mile or 10 mile route.
During the pandemic with so many restrictions in place all of our fundraising events had to be cancelled, which has had a significant impact on fundraising. This will be the first “real life” Hospice Led event for almost 2 years and it will not only help raise the vital funds we need but will be an opportunity for us to meet and enjoy this family fun event with our supporters.
