The countdown to Christmas is on and although this is one of the busiest and most expensive times of year, we wanted to share some ways that you can give to charities like the hospice without any extra cost to you.
Every penny matters to us and will help our nurses to continue to care both at the hospice and in the local community where over 70% of our services are delivered.
When online shopping
It is estimated that nearly 50% of all Christmas shopping is done online, so why not sign up to let your favourite retailers donate a percentage of all your purchases at no extra cost to you? Our preferred way of doing that is through the online service Easyfundraising. Simply log on, choose your cause, which we hope will be Woking Hospice, and then continue shopping across many reputable retailers including John Lewis, Next, Tesco, Argos etc. at no extra cost to you.
You can also give through Amazon Smile or donate an item from our Amazon wishlist. Find out more here.
Charity Christmas cards
Each year our charity Christmas cards help us raise vital funds for our patient care. They are available through our 18 shops located across the area we serve, as well as in the hospice Garden Café and in our online shop here. So if you are sending Christmas cards, we hope it will be a charity card.
Have a clear out
Whether you want a pre-Christmas clear out, or decide not to hang on to unwanted gifts afterwards, our 18 charity shops are always on the lookout for good quality donations that they can sell on. The run up to Christmas is also a really busy time for them, as many customers will be looking for unusual or quirky stocking fillers, extra decorations or unique gifts.
You can find a directory of all our shops here, and please don’t forget to Gift Aid your donations when dropping off your goods off, as we can then claim back 25p for every £1 we raise – at no extra cost to you.
We also accept unwanted coins and foreign currency which can be dropped off in the hospice.
Take part in events
Throughout December we will be hosting a wide range of events across North West Surrey, and taking part will help us raise much needed funds as well as awareness.
So whether you would like to dress up as Santa and take part in our fun run in Woking or Walton, get your presents beautifully wrapped in the Elmsleigh Centre in Stains or the Peacocks Centre in Woking, learn how to make a stunning Christmas Wreath or remember a loved one at one of our Light up a Life services, we look forward to seeing you there.
Giving the gift of giving
If you’re stuck for gift ideas why not consider supporting our hospice Lottery by giving a gift voucher for their weekly draw? The odds of winning are better than the national lottery and at the same time it supports our patient care.
You can also make a dedication in memory of a loved on our new virtual Memory wall. You can share pictures and a message in return for a donation. Or you can dedicate a leaf on our Tree of Life located in the garden at Woking Hospice. You will receive a certificate with a thank you letter and a keepsake with the leaf on the tree.
Finally, you can of course make a donation either via our website, in person at the hospice or via the telephone or by sending a cheque to: Woking Hospice, Goldsworth Park Centre, Woking, Surrey, GU21 3LG.
Thank you for supporting your local hospice. We hope you and your loved ones have a lovely and peaceful Christmas.
