On Tuesday 29 September the WSBH Golf Society took a rather rainy drive to Hankley Common Golf Club for the Woking & Sam Beare Hospices Golf day – thankfully by the time the first teams were teeing off the sun began to shine and it was a beautiful day for golf.
72 supporters of the hospice took part on the day heading off to either the 1st or 10th to play the course that was in wonderful condition. The standard of golf was excellent which resulted in some very impressive individual and team scores.
The winning individual was Laurent Dugimont with 42 points with Tom Biffen coming second with 41 points, playing off a handicap of just 6.
The winning team, The Dream Team, of James Hallam, Alex Gibbs, Edward Coke and Laurent Dugimont came in with a terrific score of 97 points. Tiku Patel’s team of Richard Conyers, Chris Maddison, Mike Lancaster and John McAndrew came second with 91 points.
All the players enjoyed a two course carvery, sitting outside whilst socially distancing, with many staying to chat with their colleagues.
“On behalf of Woking and Sam Beare Hospices I would like to thank all of the players for helping to make it such a fantastic day and for raising over £5,000 for the charity. Days like this under the current circumstances are absolutely essential in raising vital funds to help the Hospice continue to play such a critical local role in the community” Phil Wormley, Director of Fundraising .
“A big thank you to Hankley Common Golf Club and all the staff for looking after everyone so well on the day, especially with all the added precautions which are required.
We have an exciting schedule planned for 2021 and really look forward to some more great golf days to help the Hospice in the future”. Julian Wakeling, Volunteer Golf Ambassador
