Daring Dennis Sparks is marking his 85th birthday by taking on a one mile long zip wire challenge to raise money for Woking & Sam Beare Hospices, in memory of his wife Freda Sparks.
This isn’t the first time that Dennis has taken on a hair raising challenge for the hospice to date his fundraising activities have included a Wing Walk in 2015, a Fire Walk in 2017 and an Indoor Skydive in 2019.
His wife Freda was cared for at her home in Egham by the hospice Community Team in 2015 and Dennis has continued to support us with his dare devil challenges.
Dennis’s Zip Wire fundraiser was originally due to take place in April this year but like everything else due to lockdown it had to be postponed.
On Saturday 29th August Dennis and his family will travel to Penrhyn Quarry in North Wales to take on the fastest zip line in the world, one mile long and can reach speeds of up to 100mph.
“After his wing walk, fire walk and indoor skydive, Dad wanted to take on a new challenge for 2020, the year of his 85th birthday” said his daughter Wendy Finch “It has been five years since Mum passed away but Dad is still very much an active supporter of the hospice who were a great help to us all”.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to Dennis for his amazing fundraising over the last five years” commented Krista Lougher, Community and Challenge Events Fundraiser for the hospice “Support like this is invaluable to us especially in what has been such a difficult year for charities. We can’t wait to see the photos of Dennis flying across the quarry with his family, good luck to them all”.
