Job summary

The post holder will be an integral member of the palliative MDT working across all services.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative individual with great leadership skills to join our team as we shape the collaborative delivery of the Palliative & End of Life Care Strategy in North West Surrey (NWS).

The Hospice and St Peter’s Hospital have a unique working relationship that supports a more integrated and collaborative approach and continuity of care to patients with life-limiting and terminal illnesses. The vision is to extend this collaborative model across North West Surrey and the successful candidate will play a key role in this development.

The post is for minimum of 6 sessions and the post holder will be involved in education, training and research.

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide Consultant medical care at both St Peter’s Hospital and the Woking & Sam Beare Hospice.
  2. To meet with the family/carers of patients, when required, to ensure their needs are met
  3. To provide clinical supervision to the specialty registrar, specialty doctor, Foundation Year trainee, GP registrar (if in post), visiting doctors and other clinical staff e.g. CNS team undertaking supplementary prescribing courses
  4. To be involved in the development, where appropriate, of all the clinical services with close liaison with the Director of Clinical services and Medical Director
  5. To play their part in delivering a holistic approach to patient centred care which is of an excellent standard and meets the need of the individual patient
  6. To work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
  7. To maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessment and treatment in the patient’s records, and where appropriate update the clinical database.

About us

The Hospice delivers specialist palliative and end of life care to individuals with advanced life limiting conditions in its 20 bed inpatient unit and within the community.

St Peter’s Hospital has a dedicated palliative care ward with 15 beds supported by the palliative medical team, CNSs, junior doctors, nursing staff and therapists.

This post has arisen as a result of an expansion of collaboration between the Hospice and Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Hospitals Trust (A&SPH). The post holder will play a key role in the multi-disciplinary specialist palliative care team providing clinical support at both A&SPH and within the Hospice (Inpatient Unit and Community).

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Basic medical qualification, e.g. MBBS. Post Graduate qualifications: MRCP (UK) or other recognized post graduate qualification for specialist training in Palliative Medicine.

Desirable

  • Diploma or MSc in Pall Med

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates excellent ability in written/ spoken English communication and capacity to adapt language as appropriate to situation.
  • Strong team and leadership skills
  • Organizational skills / time management
  • Good I.T skills; PowerPoint
