Calling all dads, mums, children, grandparents, friends – everyone – to join us at the beautiful Virginia Water Lake to walk together in memory of a loved one on Saturday 28 September.
Stunning views of the lake and surrounding landscape provide the backdrop to our sponsored walk that will take place from 10am to 4pm. Or if you can’t make the 28th September at Virginia Water Lake join us virtually and walk with your friends and family wherever you are planning to be.
Event registration fees
- Children (aged 5-16) standard: £7
- Adult (aged 16+) standard: £12
- Family ticket (includes two adults and two children aged 5-16): £30
By taking part you could help to raise £32,000, which would enable us to deliver over 300 home visits in your local community.
Our Walk HQ will be at the Pavilion Cafe, which is where registration will be and the walk will start and finish here. Our check-in time is from 10am to 12 noon, allowing you to join us at a time that suits. You can then set off when you choose and at your own pace as long as you make it back to the Walk HQ by 4pm.
Routes to choose from
You can choose between a 4.5 mile walk around the lake or two different 2 mile routes. One leads you past the Cascade Waterfall to the Roman ruins and back or you can visit family favourite the Totem Pole for a more wheelchair-friendly route [please note there is a short but very steep incline if you choose to go via the waterfall].
The shorter routes are pushchair and wheelchair friendly and can also be covered by children on scooters and bikes, which is a great way to stop little legs from getting tired halfway round.
Additional information and activities
We will have a fun warm-up during our check-in period from Emma of Emergy Fit and a team from Corinthian Spa in Blackwater will be on hand with face-paints and glitter to add even more colour to the day.
Why not bring a picnic, use the café or visit Savill Garden and enjoy a full day out with all the family while raising vital funds for your local charity.
Canine friends are welcome too but please note dogs must be on a lead around our Walk HQ at the Pavilion Café. Thereafter you are very welcome to let them explore off-lead away from this area.
Tributes to those you are walking in memory of
Whether you are able to join us at Virginia Water Lake on the 28th September or you are choosing to walk elsewhere in memory of a loved one, you can leave special tributes by sharing your pictures and telling us who you are walking in memory of @WSBHospices #AWalkToRemember #WeAreHospiceCare #HelpTheHospice.
Event parking is available at ACS Egham International School, London Road, Egham TW20 0HS for £5 per car payable on the day. This will be on a first come, first served basis. Please be aware this is a 1 mile walk from our Walk HQ along marshalled pavements.
There is also parking at the Pavilion Café and by the Savill Garden entrance at Virginia Water for their standard rate [see http://www.windsorgreatpark.co.uk/en/visit/parking].
Sponsors and supporters
We would like to thank Woking Funeral Services for generously sponsoring ‘A Walk to Remember’ and also the ACS Egham International School, The Crown Estate and Corinthian Spa for their support.
We would also like to thank Eagle Radio and Biz Surrey and Hampshire for the £10,000 worth of advertising they have provided following winning their competition, to help raise awareness about this event.
Most importantly we want to thank all of our community for all their support – we could not deliver the care we provide to thousands of Surrey families without you.
