    Consultant in Palliative Medicine

    Job summary

    The Role – This new post has arisen as a result of an expansion of the Medical Team at the Hospice and the enhanced collaboration with its partners at the Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Hospitals Trust (A&SPH). The post holder will play a key role in the multi-disciplinary specialist palliative care team providing clinical support at both A&SPH and within the hospice (Inpatient Unit and Community).

    The Hospice seeks to promote the concept of integrated multi‐disciplinary working and the extended role of its clinicians. The post holder will play a key part in the implementation and facilitation of these objectives.

    Main duties of the job

    1. To provide Consultant medical care at both Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital and the Woking & Sam Beare Hospice.
    2. To meet with the family/carers of patients, when required, to ensure their needs are met
    3. To provide clinical supervision to the specialty registrar, specialty doctor, Foundation Year trainee, GP registrar (if in post), visiting doctors and other clinical staff e.g. CNS team undertaking supplementary prescribing courses
    4. To be involved in the development, where appropriate, of all the clinical services with close liaison with the Director of Clinical services and Medical Director
    5. To play their part in delivering a holistic approach to patient centred care which is of an excellent standard and meets the need of the individual patient

    Woking & Sam Beare Hospice and Wellbeing Care (The Hospice) is a patient-centered Charity that delivers specialist palliative and end of life care to individuals with advanced life limiting conditions and provides support to their families.

    The Hospice provides inpatient and wellbeing services and delivers care in the Community for around 2,000 individuals across North West Surrey.
