Woking & Sam Beare Hospices is a patient-led charity that delivers specialist palliative care to adult patients of all ages who have advance life-limiting conditions. We cover six Surrey boroughs with a population of over 360,000, providing free of charge care and support services for patients, their families and carers. We care for over 1,400 patients each year. Our care is provided for patients who stay in the hospice, come to us as day patients to the Bradbury Wellbeing Centre, but actually over 70% is delivered across the community in patient homes, care homes or nursing homes. We are committed to enabling patient choice and the best quality of life.
We care for adults of all ages with a wide range of life limiting conditions such as cancer, heart disease, Motor Neurone Disease (MND), chronic pulmonary conditions, Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis (MS). We help patients to manage their symptoms, which are often complex and why they require the expertise of our Clinical Nurse Specialists and specialist doctors.
Our services enable us to offer our patients holistic care, which means we offer emotional, social, spiritual and practical support, as well as managing symptoms and pain control.
Like many charities we are reliant on voluntary income. For every £5 of costs incurred we have to raise £4 to enable us to continue to be fully operational. We achieve this through income we receive from our 17 shops across the region and through fundraising activities and partnerships.
During any period of change we appreciate that confusion can arise and therefore for clarity please can we advise of the following:
- Our official organisational and charity name is Woking & Sam Beare Hospices
- The Sam Beare Community Team are still termed the same and they are still based in Weybridge
- Woking Hospice is the name of the new facility in Goldsworth Park - this is the building name and part of our postal address
We also appreciate that some of our shops are called 'Woking Hospice' and those located in Weybridge are called 'Sam Beare Hospice'. While there is discrepancy here please be aware that all of our retail outlets raise money for Woking & Sam Beare Hospices. This is something we will be working to rectify over the next 18 months to two years to ensure consistency across the organisation. In the meantime please accept our apologies for any confusion this might cause.
