Light up a Life
Light up a Life
Light up a Life is one of the Hospice movement’s best loved and most meaningful community events; it is a time to remember and celebrate the life of a loved one in a special way.
We will have five Light up a Life services this year. Each service will last for about an hour and will feature special readings from Hospice staff and volunteers, as well as the chance for all to join voices with traditional carols and music.
We know that Light up a Life is a very special occasion for all those who attend. It’s a chance to take some time out to remember those we have lost – in a gathering of others who are all going through the same personal journeys. Light up a Life is often sad and joyful at the same time; but always immensely fulfilling for guests, hospice staff and volunteers alike.
One of the services, held at the Hospice will be a non-religious celebration for families, led by Independent Celebrant, Mary Morgan. This service is open to anyone who wishes to attend. It differs from our traditional religious services, and will not include any faith based prayers, hymns or formalities but will still connect with each individual’s spiritualty.
It is for those who, for whatever reason, do not wish to attend a religious service. Our celebration will include music, poetry and readings that gives freedom for people to reflect upon their own feelings of loss and to celebrate their memories of love and joy in the way that has unique and personal meaning to them and their loved ones.
Our 2017 services will take place on the following dates:
- Friday 1st December at Woking Hospice, Goldsworth Park at 6.30pm
- Sunday 3rd December at St John’s Church, Egham at 3:30pm
- Sunday 3rd December at St Dunstan’s Church, Woking at 6.30pm
- Sunday 10th December at St James’ Church, Weybridge at 3pm
- Sunday 10th December at St Andrew’s Church, Goldsworth Park at 6:30pm
We have created an online Memory stars book, which displays all dedicated names and we will regularly be adding to it from now and throughout the Christmas period. You can view the 2016 virtual book here.
The names are sorted alphabetically but if you are looking for a specific name that you have asked us to add, then you can use the search feature to help you. You can also print out a copy of the booklet for your own keepsake.
Our 2017 memory star, to hang on your Christmas tree, can be downloaded and printed here
