Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is an important element of palliative care.  It enables you to retain optimal levels of independence and a sense of control, wherever possible, in all areas of your life.

Our occupational therapy team believes that it is important to your well being that you are able to continue with your everyday activities and occupations.   Their aim is to look at the impact of your illness on your lifestyle and to support you in adapting to changes and to help you continue your life as normally as possible.

The occupational therapy team works with patients, families and carers both at home and also in the Hospice.

Our occupational therapy team can help with:

  • Washing, dressing, bathing, toileting, mobility, domestic activities
  • Provision of equipment, including wheelchairs, and fitting of rails
  • Coping skills to adapt to changing circumstances and roles, including relaxation, anxiety management and living with breathlessness
  • Leisure activities
  • Work activities
  • Giving carers support and advice
