Style Me in Seconds goes down in history

There was a buzz of activity in Woking Hospice Shop this weekend, as Shoppers young and old dropped in to check out the new vintage fashion layout and participate in the launch event Style Me in Seconds*.

Fifteen women booked appointments to have a full style consultation with shop managers- come-fashion experts Jo Marsh and Caroline Othen. They were also treated to a Clinique makeover with make-up artist Tina Smart and her colleagues, a vintage hair style from professional hair stylist Jackie Witney and a photo shoot with photographer Mary Elizabeth Pugsley. Fashion-themed biscuits had been made and painstakingly decorated by Godalming Vintage Teas and Soulwood Cakes, and were handed out to models-in-the-making to munch whilst they were being pampered. Visitors to the town centre were also encouraged to visit Surrey Jewellery School teachers and students, who were demonstrating their jewellery making live in Mercia Walk and inviting people to take home their lovingly crafted items for a suggested donation, with all proceeds going to the hospices.

The new-look vintage corner in the hospice shop was officially opened on Saturday by the Deputy Mayor of Woking, Councillor Cundy and his wife, Sarah. Sarah had a style consultation with Caroline and purchased a chic new trouser suit and a hat for her term as Mayoress next year.

The day was thoroughly successful and raised over £2.6k for the hospices and rising, with more items put aside by shoppers to be purchased later in the week. The shop will remain fully kitted out with the vintage fashion until the end of Saturday 27th August, when a wider selection of clothes will be reintroduced. The vintage corner, however, is to become a permanent feature at the shop, situated at 2 Commercial Way, Woking.

Customer and model for the day Ewa Fisher says:I absolutely adore Woking Hospice Shop. Caroline and Jane are heart and soul of this fabulous shop. Knowing how much effort and thought both of them dedicate to dress windows, display an amazing selection of clothes, handbags and shoes together with great customer service, I was expecting my Vintage Makeover to be great. And truly- it exceeded all of my expectations; I brought one of my friends and we both had a ball! The selection of clothes is always amazing and I scored few gems during the makeover-such as vintage Diane von Furstenberg dress (picked by Caroline) which I absolutely adore. I’m looking forward to more!”

Area Shops Manager from Woking & Sam Beare Hospices, Chantelle Milne, says: “We are all thrilled about the success of the event and are hopeful of its return in the future; our thanks are extended to everyone who helped make it such a success. We loved seeing the great outfits of all the lovely ladies who took part! We are also planning other exciting events in our shops in the future and if people enjoyed our vintage launch weekend, we encourage them to keep in touch with us, to be the first to hear about what’s in store.”

To keep in the loop, email and request to be put on the Style Me in Seconds mailing list or visit *Style me in Seconds is a brand of the Charity Retail Association, which kindly gave the hospice full support, with CEO Robin Osterley attending the event on Friday.
