Our new hospice is taking shape
Work continues on the future home for Woking and Sam Beare Hospices, as our new building on Goldsworth Park takes shape. We have been fundraising for, and working on our new state-of-the-art hospice since February 2016, so it is exciting to share with you the progress we have made so far.
See how our new facility has taken shape over the past year in this time lapse video.
Underfloor heating throughout the building will provide a cosy environment for our patients and visitors.
The 20 en-suite first floor patients’ rooms are ready for electrical equipment, including hoists, to be installed. To help create a warm and non-clinical environment with a homely feel, we will be fitting specialist equipment into bedroom cabinets.
We will have sofa-beds available so that family members can stay with their loved ones. Each room will have a private balcony, with glass doors wide enough to allow the bed to be wheeled outside. Patients will be able to enjoy fresh air, and a view towards either landscaped gardens or trees, regardless of how well they are feeling.
In-patients and users of the Wellbeing Centre will be able to easily access complementary and rehabilitation therapies and counselling on the ground floor, along with the café. This will be open to members of the public and those using our hospice. The large, airy day care room opens out onto gardens, which are yet to be planted.
There are several quiet, private areas scattered throughout the building for families to use as they wish. The clinical and medical teams will have two large nursing stations and a fantastic purpose-built training facility to support their professional development.
We send a huge thank you to our local community and businesses for all your fantastic support so far but we still need your help to raise even more to complete our new hospice.
