New route for Midnight Walk

In a week’s time, hundreds of women will take part in our Midnight Walk on Friday 20th May. Together they will raise thousands to help fund the vital services provided by the Hospices to support patients with life limiting illnesses.

With a brand new route this year, starting off at 10pm at Mercedes-Benz World, participants will take an 8 mile journey through Brooklands, Byfleet and Addlestone before going through Weybridge and back to Mercedes-Benz World for refreshments and a medal at the finish line to mark their achievement.

The event is set to be the biggest and brightest yet and with a Brazilian Carnival theme and bright pink t-shirts, inspired by the 2016 Olympics taking place in Rio this summer, it will be a great way to get into the carnival spirit. There will be a fantastic party atmosphere with music and entertainment, culminating in a big group warm up and there will of course be the famous flashing bunny ears, glow in the dark accessories, face painting and plenty of selfie opportunities.

One group of ladies who will be lighting up the night in their bright pink t-shirts and neon accessories are the West Byfleet Midnight Walkers who have taken part many times before including in 2014 when they raised over £15,000 in memory of the father of a pupil at a West Byfleet school who was cared for by the Hospices. Tamsin Birch whose children have attended West Byfleet Infant School since 2012 has taken over as leader of the group for 2016.

She said “We’re back this year as the ‘West Byfleet Midnight Walkers’ and we have 55 ladies signed up which is brilliant. We will be walking in memory of a mum of one of the children at the school who passed away last August and she and her family received support from the Hospices in the form of counselling and advice.”

“What our group enjoy about taking part in the Midnight Walk each year is the camaraderie, the party atmosphere, being part of a team, and the sense of achievement once it’s done!”
