New face for Volunteer Services

On 19th and 20th February Woking & Sam Beare Hospices are holding an event in Woking & Weybridge town centres to launch their Appeal to raise funds for the new Hospices. A brand new state-of-the-art building is under construction in Goldsworth Park whilst Sam Beare in Weybridge is being fully redeveloped. It has never been a more crucial time for Volunteer Services to rally the troops and so the staff are thrilled to welcome a new addition to the team, Gary Wood, Volunteer Services Operational Manager.

Gary has joined the team to help raise the profile of volunteering for Woking & Sam Beare Hospices. After 8 years running the Volunteer Services Department Mary will now be concentrating on training, plus developing volunteer services by increasing awareness and interest in the community about the fantastic benefits to everyone who volunteers.  A new campaign which involves “One of Your 5 a Day” is the central part of this project. She would like to come and talk to schools, colleges and interests groups, so please get in touch to book a presentation by emailing her: m.morgan@wsbhospices.co.uk. Gary and Mary will be doing a lot of joint projects for volunteer services. There will be more updates over the coming months. Gary will provide a constant office presence and a steady point of contact for both regular volunteers and new recruits.

Woking & Sam Beare Hospices have over 800 members of the public supporting them in many different ways. Roles that people can play vary greatly; from enabling out-patients to access our services, supporting Day Care, assisting with fundraising events, providing counselling services and complementary therapies to working in the retail warehouse and the shops. Volunteers bring their life experience and skills and give the most valuable commodity of all, which is their time.
