Name the new heart mascot competition
We have launched a competition with the Surrey Advertiser and online at getsurrey.co.uk to name the new heart-shaped mascot. It has been running less than a week and some fantastic names have already been offered for consideration. Names have been suggested for all sorts of reasons; some in memory of loved ones, others from patients who have expressed how the Hospices make them feel.
The colourful heart mascot, who is heading up the New Build Appeal, will be introduced to the public on Saturday 20th February in Woking Town Centre. The heart shape was chosen by a forum who decided that not only did this accurately symbolise the hospice buildings being at the heart of all of the great work that the Hospice staff do, and therefore at the heart of the community, but that the most resonant feeling amongst the community is that people love their hospice.
The four colours represent all four areas of care that the Hospice offer: Family Support, Wellbeing, In the Home and On the Ward; all of which will be improved when New Build Project is completed in 2017. Over the coming months the public will be encouraged to find out more about what their local hospice can do for them at a time when they need it most. It is also hoped that the mascot will provide an approachable way for adults to talk to children about hospice care; an often difficult but necessary job.
To enter the competition is simple – Write your name and age, a contact phone number and the suggested name for our mascot into an email and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject bar saying: Name the Hospice Heart. If you are under 18 please supply the name and phone number of your legal guardian, who we will contact on your behalf.
The lucky winner will have their photo taken professionally with the mascot and printed in the Surrey Advertiser and they will also receive a goody bag. If more than one person picks the same name, judged to be the winner, entrants will be put into a hat and the winner drawn at random. The competition closes at 5pm on Thursday 18th February. The winner will be notified on Friday 19th February and the name announced on Saturday 20th February, in Woking Town Centre, with the winner being encouraged to come along and hear their chosen name being used for the first time!
Whether you win the name competition or not, all applicants are encouraged to come and meet the campaign mascot on its first ever appearance and join in with the fun between 10am-4pm. Click here for more details.
