Miracle of Merrow…

Charity shops are always a great place to pick up little treasures at low prices, but our shop in Merrow also has a tendency to sell winning tickets to our Hospice Lottery! The latest £1000 winner was 53-year-old local shopper Linda Dixon-Dymott, who loves visiting the shop and sees it as a way of giving something back. “That day my purchase came to £9, so the lady on the counter asked me if I wanted to round it up to £10 with a lottery ticket, but never thought I’d actually win the first prize!” explained Linda.

It’s the third time in three years that the charity shop on Epsom Road has sold the first prize ticket in our Hospice Lottery where all funds raised are put towards helping our patients and families. You can also play the Hospice lottery by standing order, or like Linda, buy a ticket from one of our 17 Hospice shops located throughout the area.

The unexpected win may help Linda visit her friend, who moved to Australia 12 years ago. “I’m really tempted to go see her, as I have never been to Australia, but I may also just be really boring and pay some bills,” explained Linda, who admitted that she’d never won anything like this before, and the news therefore hadn’t really sunk in yet. Shop Manager, Julie Sillwood, was delighted to present the cheque to her regular customer alongside Lottery Manager Kelly Nevell. It’s always a wonderful feeling when we have a lottery winner in one of our shops, and as this is the ninth winner this year alone, we’re starting to think that our Merrow shop has the magic touch. One thing’s for certain, supporting our Lottery makes everyone a winner.
