Midnight Walk grand total and winners announced

The total amount raised from our 2016 Midnight Walk has amounted to nearly £120,000 so far! The event, which took place in May, was one of the best attended yet, with over 900 walkers taking part. Almost all of the sponsorship money pledged has now come in and the fundraising superstars who won special ‘Owliver’ awards have been announced.

Winning the Fundraising Fanatics award was the ‘Young Hearts Run Free’ team led by Helen Du Toit, in memory of their friends Chris Loughton (who was cared for at Woking Hospice) and Simone Pearman (another hospice). They were awarded this prize for being the team who raised the most from this year’s Midnight Walk and raised an incredible £10,694.70 (including gift aid). Helen explains:

“Chris Loughton and Simone Pearman were dear friends who were diagnosed with bowel cancer within 3 months of each other.  The months that followed were difficult and painful but through the loving support of their family and close friends, they continued to live and enjoy their life as much as possible and amidst the pain and tears came love and laughter.  After Chris passed away over 40 ladies committed to the walk in memory of these two fun loving ladies. We met beforehand and toasted our beloved friends as they would have wished and we all united to remember them with a smile on our faces and love in our hearts. We were delighted to receive the prize, it was a team effort and the fundraising does not stop there.”

She gathered an amazing £2,160(including gift aid),  in sponsorship, by herself. Patricia was walking in memory of her husband and her best friend, both who passed away in Sam Beare Hospice.

As a special thank you, all of the winners were given a tour of the new build site in Woking.

Danielle Le Cuirot, Events Fundraising Manager at the Hospices, says: “on behalf of the Hospices I would like to thank everyone who made this year’s event such a huge success. We raised a huge amount of money and we are grateful to everyone who worked hard to get their sponsorship money to us in good time. Every penny really does count towards helping towards the running of the hospices. I would urge anyone who has not yet submitted their sponsorship, to do so in good time.”

Next year, it is anticipated that the Midnight Walk route will pass the brand new hospice building. The next Hospice fundraising event in the calendar will provide festive fun for all the family, as the Santa Fun Run once again takes place on Sunday 11th December at Mercedes Benz World.
