Join our Dragon Boat Challenge
On Sunday 6th July Goldsworth Lake will see teams paddle against each other for our inaugural Dragon Boat Charity Challenge. Trisha Corless, a member of ‘Wraysbury Dragons’ and the GB Dragon Boat squad, came along to the launch to give some tips for the big day.
She is pleased to see the Hospices introduce Dragon Boating to the community, as it’s a great sport suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and most importantly fun to do. “When the boat moves through the water, there’s a great feeling of unity, and charity events like this are a good way to try out a different kind of sport,” Trish explained.
Dragon Boating is a watersport, which has its roots dating back 2000 years throughout southern China. While competitions have taken place annually for more than 20 centuries, as part of religious ceremonies and folk customs, dragon boat racing has in modern times emerged as an international sport, beginning in Hong Kong in 1976.
Rosie Gibbons, Head of Community Fundraising, is thrilled to be launching this unique event to raise money for our Hospices, and with the boats taking between 16 and 20 people, and training given on the day, it’s the perfect team building experience for companies too!
On the day, refreshments will be available for participants and spectators, and it will be a wonderful spectacle as Goldsworth comes alive with Dragons!
