Hospices launch action packed 2016 events
Woking & Sam Beare Hospices hosted an evening to launch their exciting Challenge Events calendar for 2016 on Thursday 28th January at St Andrew’s Church. The evening gave people a chance to learn about the reward and thrills involved in taking on a challenge for their local Hospices. Guests also had the opportunity to speak to James Sparrow, Client Relationship Manager at Action Challenge – a company who organise inspirational challenge events, to find out what it’s really like to take part in some of the most adventurous events out there.
Currently, we’re offering supporters the chance to take part in everything from fun family-friendly activities to travelling abroad to hike a mountain or jumping out of a plane. With the New Year just behind us, it’s a perfect time to put plans into action and start achieving those New Year’s resolutions.
Events Fundraising Executive at the Hospices, Melissa Stock took part in various challenges herself in 2015 including a colour run, an obstacle course race and a tandem skydive. She said “Undertaking a challenge especially when it’s for a cause like the Hospices can be one of the most amazing experiences of your life. It’s a personal and physical achievement as well as a chance to give something back.”
She added “The high standard of care which we give, completely free of charge to patients and their families across Surrey, costs in excess of £8 million per year to achieve; but we receive little government funding so it’s our intrepid supporters who help us make it happen. Some of you may have set yourself fitness goals or aims to try something new; we’ve got so much on offer to help you achieve those goals so make 2016 one to truly remember and take on a challenge for Woking & Sam Beare Hospices.”
As a result of the evening, supporters signed up for upcoming events including the London to Brighton Challenge, South Coast Challenge and the Surrey Half Marathon with many expressing their interest for the Skydive Day and annual Prudential Ride 100.
