Horses or HG Wells

This weekend saw two community events raise thousands of pounds for Woking Hospice. Friday night saw the Hospices inaugural race night event. Playing to a packed ‘Cardinals Suite’ at Woking Football Ground the race goers enjoyed a spectacular evening of Racing ‘on the big screen’ and enjoyed a Pan Asian Buffet in the interval. Event organiser John Hooker said “The support of the Football Club and in particular race controller Martin Oakley from the ‘Cards Trust’ enabled us to have an excellent event.” He went on to praise Wendy Denty, Hospice Community Fundraiser who worked with him on the project. “Wendy and her friends and family performed miracles in ensuring the food was served on time and hot!”
A TOTAL of £2,400 was raised

Saturday was a day to celebrate The Jam starting with a minibus tour of the band’s hotspots in Woking, followed by a book signing of the “Thick as Thieves” by authors Stuart Deabill and Ian Snowball at Waterstones. “It was one of the busiest signings they’ve ever had, perhaps because former band member Rick Buckler joined us,” said Vic Falsetta.
Vic, the organiser and promoter of Wake up Woking then went on to organise “A Town called Woking” concert at the HG Wells which featured local Woking band The Stanley Blacks, The Spitfires, Aunt Nelly, ReadySteadyGo, DJ Stu and Diz from Away From The Numbers who all gave their time for free.
The event drew in a local and dedicated crowd that enjoyed a great musical line up in an intimate setting. Vic added “the bands were very accessible and people were able to chat and have drinks with them afterwards.” The raffle on the night included a collage of photos by The Style Council, and signed memorabilia, the winning numbers were:

1st – 450, 2nd – 326, 3rd – 436, 4th – 467, 5th – 437, 6th – 381, 7th – 129, 8th – 186, 9th – 118, 10th – 123, 11th – 293, 12th – 350
