Hairdresser cuts fine fundraising figure

Local hairdresser, Enzo Nigrelli from One Step Ahead in Woking, has proved his shop to be a cut above the rest as he celebrated the shop’s 40th birthday in style, by fundraising for the Hospices.

The team held a raffle and customers were all encouraged by staff to buy tickets after their hair-cut. The grand total came to a hair-raising £1314.

Enzo hopes that his raffle will encourage members of the Woking community to start thinking about their local hospice. When explaining why he chose to help the charity he said: “Thankfully I have never had to use the hospice but you just never know when you might need it. One day a customer gave us £50 because his mum and dad were both cared for there. It’s a local charity for local people and that is so important.”

He explained how he made sure that staff were talking to the public about the hospices and offering the chance to buy tickets to everyone, saying, “some of the staff were shy at first but I told them not to be, because the public are really generous and more often than not they are happy to help if they know what you are asking for.”

Hospice Chairman Marc Riggs is a regular customer and he found out about the fundraising work being done by Enzo and his team whilst having his regular trim. As a token of thanks, Marc and Hospice CEO Nigel Harding popped in to personally collect the cheque.

Marc explains: “it’s great to find out that someone I have known for twenty years is so keen to promote a cause that is dear to my heart. So many Woking residents benefit from the hard work of Woking & Sam Beare Hospices and the work of figures in the community like Enzo helps make it happen. That’s why I wanted to personally thank him for his support.”
