Fantastic fundraising from our RideLondon riders

Congratulations to all the riders who took part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 to fundraise for Woking & Sam Beare Hospices on Sunday 30 July.  Fourteen riders conquered the 100 mile course for the charity, including Rob Fuoco, who finished in 6 hours and Chris Read who completed the course in 7 hours and 4 minutes, almost an hour quicker than he had expected.

Raising £823, Rob Fuoco commented, “Woking & Sam Beare Hospices cared for my mum when she needed palliative care back in 2001 and it’s always been somewhere that is very close to our hearts. So, as a family, we do what we can to help, whether it’s volunteering or fundraising.”

Our other speedy rider, Chris Read, has raised a fantastic £1,500 through RideLondon. As a local charity, the hospice relies on the generosity of the local community to provide our services free of charge when they are needed the most.

Chris said, “Once I entered the race I decided to fundraise for the charity as my mother was at the Sam Beare Hospice in Weybridge when she passed away in December 2013. I was totally blown away how the staff there were with my Mum and family. How they do what they do is beyond me and they all have my total respect. In our darkest moments they were truly amazing. I believe the support my father received from the hospice after my Mum’s death saved him, as without that support I really don’t know how he would have coped.”

The annual 100 mile cycling event starts at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park before traveling through the country roads of Surrey to finish on the Mall. It was created to encourage cyclists to take on the same route as the professionals in the London 2012 Olympic Games and to promote a fit and healthy lifestyle.

Today, the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 is a premier race that attracts the world’s finest cycling professionals to the pro event on the same course. So, why not give it a go next year? Woking & Sam Beare Hospices are already recruiting riders for 2018. If you would like to find out more, please email the Fundraising Team or call 01438 881 752.
