Day Care to partially reopen

26 February 2010

In October 2009 due to the economic downturn we reluctantly took the steps of suspending day care facilities at the Hospices.  It was the only immediate way of safeguarding all other services while an Emergency Appeal was launched to help secure the future of both Hospices.

We called on the generosity of those who have always kept us going: the community - and as ever people have responded in such a positive way and have done so many wonderful things - held coffee mornings, donated birthday money, put coins in collecting tins or thought of different ways to get sponsored.

Due to everyone's inspiring efforts and generosity, we have reached our incredibly ambitious £600,000 target for the first quarter of the Emergency Appeal. The good news is that, for now, no other services are in immediate danger of being cut and due to this community support the Day Care Unit at both Hospices will reopen from Spring 2010, but only for one day a week.

Chris Flemington, Chief Executive said "We are pleased that phase one of the Appeal has gone so well and that we can start to push on with the crucial second phase which will require even more effort. Until we have reinstated every day of our Day Care service and safeguarded our future, there remains an emergency. I am hopeful we shall succeed as so many people are now aware that they have a Hospice in the heart of the community of which they can be proud."

Please continue to support the Emergency Appeal as well as other fundraising events taking place.
