Congratulations to our walkers along the Thames
Congratulations to all the walkers who took part in the Thames Path Challenge and the Thames Bridges Trek recently in support of our hospice.
Emma Cornelisse, Christine Blondell and Jane Del-Pizzo tackled the 16 bridges of the 25K Thames Bridges Trek from Putney Bridge to Southwark, while Jeff Turner strode the 50K Thames Path Challenge route with his son and daughter-in-law on 9 September.
Emma and Christine (above) have raised more than £1050 between them in memory of their friend who was cared for by the hospice. Christine said, ‘We had an amazing time. It took us six hours but the weather stayed fine until we crossed the finish line, so I think our friend was looking out for us!’
Jane (left) said: ‘I chose to walk for the hospice because of the vital support they provided to my family during my father’s illness and to enable them to provide other families with the same support. I’ve currently raised £271 with more sponsorship to come in. Apart from a little soreness from the walk, I seemed to have escaped pretty lightly.’
Jeff (right) was walking in memory of his wife Liz. He said, ‘Woking and Sam Beare Hospices staff really did support Liz in so many ways when she was suffering from cancer. They provided care and, via their nursing staff, they also supported the family and gave Liz reassurance. In addition, they gave us many items that helped Liz to be comfortable and still do simple things – like taking her meal from the kitchen to the dining room. They offered so much to me and Liz and I want to help them to be able to give the same support, care and encouragement to others.’
‘The walk was exhausting and hard work but, thanks to the support of my son and daughter-in-law, we managed to complete the walk in just under 12 hours. I have raised around £800 so far. Although my feet were suffering with bad blisters and I haven’t been able to walk properly for the past few days, it was all worth it!’
