Chloe wins Local Heroes award
Eagle Radio celebrated some of the county’s most awe-inspiring residents last week, when they held their held their annual Local Heroes Awards and excitingly, one of our youngest supporters won the Young Persons Award!
Chloe Boyes was cheered by the audience as she made her way up on to the stage to collect the award and gave a stirring speech, delivered like a pro, urging everyone to raise money for the hospice because “they are absolutely amazing”.
Chloe’s dad, Steve was cared for by Woking Hospice when he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. After Steve died, Chloe continued to be an ambassador for us and has raised nearly £2,500 to date, through coffee mornings and raffles organised totally by herself.
She was nominated by a number of different sources, including the Hospice Fundraising team and close family friends who supported Chloe and her mum, Irene, throughout the difficult time of Steve’s illness and afterwards.
Hospice Community Fundraiser Chiara Cadei says:
“We are so proud of Chloe and the fantastic work that she has done to raise money for us. She will help so many others who find themselves in the same situation that she and her mum found themselves in; and we hope that by winning this award, not only will she realise how much her efforts mean to those close to her and to the Hospices, but also how inspirational she is to other people who are fundraising for this important cause.”
The Local Heroes Award recognises exceptional organisations and people with a star-studded evening of celebrations. This year, the audience were entertained by former Spice Girl Mel C and the Military Wives Choir.
