Chairman has stepped down
Woking & Sam Beare Hospices has a new Chairman for their Board of Trustees after the existing Chairman, David Perry has stepped down.
David, a retired accountant from Guildford, was keen to get involved with a local charity and Woking Hospice was a natural choice. “Retirement allowed me the time to offer my professional skills to the charity sector and I have been a Trustee of Woking Hospice since 2004, becoming chairman in 2007. There have been huge advances in the services offered by the Hospices in that time, notably doubling our patient capacity by taking over Sam Beare Hospice in 2006, and I am privileged to have been part of it.”
David stood down at the Board Meeting on the 11th November, the day after his 70th birthday, adding “ I have been keen to reduce the average age of the Trustees for some time! However, I will remain as a Trustee and continue to chair the Finance Committee during the building phase of the new hospice development in Goldsworth Park.”
Marc Riggs was then elected as Chairman by unanimous vote of the Trustees. He has been a Trustee since July 2012 and takes over as Chairman at a busy time for both hospices commenting, “Situated in the Heart of Surrey our Hospices are currently caring for some 1,200 people per year. We are responding to their changing needs by improving and developing the services we offer and the way we deliver them. The plans for a new hospice and wellbeing centres to serve this generous community will help us care for more people, more efficiently. Construction work has now started and we will be launching a Public Appeal early next year asking for support towards meeting the cost of the new Hospice and the redevelopment work at Sam Beare.”
A chartered surveyor and town planner, Marc has worked in the property industry for some thirty years. Previously a partner of a regional property consultancy firm, Marc now runs a number of development companies based near the famous Top Gear track in Dunsfold, which deliver office, industrial, retail and residential schemes in and around the south-east.
