Ashford Manager leads by example

Laura Plunkett, Manager of our Sam Beare Outlet Shop in Ashford, will be leading by example when she joins our Midnight Walk on the 20th June. Last year 78-year-old shop volunteer Mrs Betty Ryalls, joined her on the 8 mile sponsored walk around Brooklands, but this year Laura will be walking it with her family in memory of her father in law, who died of bowel cancer last year.

“The Hospice really helped support us when we needed it the most, and I feel very proud to be one of the chosen few to work for such a wonderful worth while charity,” explains Laura. She hopes more staff, customers and locals will join this popular and poignant women’s only walk. “It’s a really fun night out, and the atmosphere is so amazing, a bit like a giant hen party really,” laughs Laura wearing her pink flashing bunny ears from last year.

Last year over 600 women, aged 12 to 80, walked, talked and flashed their bunny ears around the circular route starting at Mercedes-Benz World in Brooklands.  The Midnight Walk has raised a staggering £850,000 since it started 7 years ago and the money helps us provide end off life care and counselling services to families across Surrey.
