A wonderful evening of fundraising…
On Saturday 19th November we celebrated our 20th anniversary Dove Ball at the Wentworth Golf Club and the Alice in Wonderland themed event raised over £44,000 for our Hospices. Guests included Hospice Patron Michael Aspel and his partner Irene Clarke, New Build Appeal Patron Isabel Webster and her husband Liam Pearce, the Mayor of Woking, Councillor Anne Murray with her husband Michael Smith, and the Mayor of Runnymede, Councillor Alan Alderson with his wife Margaret Alderson.
On arrival the nearly 250 guests were greeted by a red carpet lined with life-sized playing cards and a White Rabbit, before entering the prestigious venue where they enjoyed an evening of ‘nonsense and adventures’. During the delicious three course meal, which was followed by coffee and confection, there was live music from the jazz quintet ‘Down for the Count’ and close-up magic by George Kinder and Tom Silburn. The culinary highlight was the show-stopping ‘Eat Me’ dessert complete with a lemon macaroon pocket watch, a chocolate mousse tea table, and mini jam tarts.
Dinner was followed by a live and silent auction which were both a huge success, with guests winning prizes such as a box at the Royal Albert Hall to see Jools Holland, and a signed 2016 England Football shirt. A painting of Paul Weller by local artist Nick Cockburn also raised an incredible £1,250. The guests also had the opportunity to have photos taken in the Wonderland Photo booth, have a go at Flamingo Croquet, win luxury items in the Tombola, or have fun on the casino tables.
The Dove Ball is a key annual fundraising event for Woking & Sam Beare Hospices. Interim CEO Jayne Cooper attended and said “As we enjoy our evening here at the ball, we know that building work on our brand new hospice is moving towards completion. But once we have the keys the essential fit-out process will begin, and we urgently need to find the money to buy the specialist equipment that will allow us to offer the very best care to our future patients. Thank you to everyone who has and continues to support us – we couldn’t deliver the care we do without you.”
Events Fundraising Manager, Danielle Le Cuirot was delighted with the event and commented; “We’re truly grateful to everyone who has contributed so generously to the evening, helping us to raise such an incredible amount of funds for the Hospices. I’d like to say a big thank you to our sponsor Majestic Publications and photographer Jenny Chaffe of JC Memories, as well as the Hospices’ volunteers and staff, and team of volunteers from Barclays, who all helped make the night a huge success.”
