A Fab Fun Day for Sam Beare
Supporters from Stanwell Moor presented a cheque for £1,689 to Sam Beare, having raised the money by hosting a fab fun day on their local green. A cream tea, live music, amazing raffle prizes, and a delicious hog roast had helped pull in the crowds.
The main driving force behind the event was Penny Street, who unfortunately couldn’t take part in the cheque presentation. Her sister had passed away at Sam Beare, so she enlisted the help of Gill Sanderson, Joy Turner, Gay Smith and her daughter Rebecca Harris, to help raise funds for the charity. “I met Penny after my husband passed away at Sam Beare last October, and she asked if I would be interested in organising a fun day,” explained Joy whose husband spent his last 3 days at the Hospice. “I was able to stay by his side all the time, which was very important to me,” added Joy.
It was the first time the five ladies arranged a fundraising event, and it was a great success, which brought the group closer together. They won’t rule out arranging another one, “once we have recovered from this one,” Gay added. The total raised at the fun day has been split evenly between the Hospice and St Mary’s Church, Stanwell, and Farther William Whittaker, who is also a keen Hospice supporter, came along to hand over the cheque.
